PAUL SAVIDENT

Barbara C. Pope is a 1981 graduate of the New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, New York, where she was awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communication Arts, specializing in Production. At NYIT, she minored in Photography and from 1972 to 1991 Ms. Pope was a professional photographer. In 1992, Ms. Pope formed Awakening Theatre Dance company and serves as Producer and Executive Director respectively.

Since 1992, Ms. Pope, through Awakening Theatre Dance Company, staged several productions, including Precious Memories in New York’s Lincoln Centre in 1993, Time Flies in Cleveland’s Palace Theatre in 1994, Love in New York’s Tribeca Performing Arts Centre in 1996, Tap and Pan, a dance show with steel drums that premiered in Her Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1996, Trans Am Jam in Glasgow, Scotland’s Coittier Theatre in 1998, and Celebrating a Life of Love in Philadelphia’s Arts Bank Theatre in 1998.

In 1999, Ms. Pope expanded ATDC into a production enterprise called Awakening Dance Productions, Inc., an interactive multimedia communications company whose purpose is the integration of all forms of the arts in an engaging interactive format. Awakening Dance Productions, Inc. focuses on, among other things, international theatrical presentations and educational programming and local cultural events for the Upper Manhattan community.
