Theatre Review | WE COULD BE HEROES | Bridewell Theatre

Imagine Adrian Mole with a guitar but without the sharp humour and you have the anonymous central

character of We Could Be Heroes.  This Everymusician figure idolises Bowie, dreams of rock stardom

and passionate affairs, but finds that reality deals him a different hand.

Richard Lumsden acts and sings in his own one-man-show, which is likeable without turning the volume

knob to gripping.  The character's catalogue of missed opportunities is viewed retrospectively from the

vantage pint of his turn at a rock festival, the now middle-aged man's shot at final glory.

The festival theme is neatly developed, but the slick packaging of Graham Gill's production cannot disguise

the fact that the main character is insufficiently realised for us to share his ongoing personal and

professional anguish.
