Play Description | Writer | Production Photos | Quotes | Tour Details Richard Cameron's The Glee Club, which played at the Duchess Theatre for seven weeks (April - June 2002) in London's West End following a sell-out season and great critical acclaim at The Bush Theatre, is touring the country from 8 September 2004. The tour is presented by Bush Productions Ltd and The Octagon Theatre, Bolton as a co-production following a highly acclaimed re-mount of the production at the Octagon Theatre in Bolton for four weeks from 10 June 2004. The Glee Club, made up of five hard working, hard drinking miners and a church organist, is preparing for the local gala. Though they’re established on the working men’s club circuit, they aren’t exactly at the vanguard of the musical revolution. Sometimes compassion and understanding, as well as bigotry and cowardice, can come from the most unlikely places. This is the summer of 1962 – music and much else is about to change – so too the lives of these six men. Nothing and no-one will ever be the same again.
Casting for the tour is as follows: MIKE BURNS (The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy – UK Tour, Colin in The Brittas Empire - ITV) playing Walt Hemmings, STEVE GARTI (Casualty, Clocking Off, Spooks and The Cops – all BBC) playing Scobie Newsome, JAMES HORNSBY (The Glee Club – Bush Theatre & Duchess Theatre, London, Bouncers – UK Tour) playing Jack Horsfall, OLLIE JACKSON (The Glee Club – Bush Theatre & Duchess Theatre, London, Our House – Cambridge Theatre, London) as Colin Wrigglesworth, TERRY MORTIMER (Blonde Bombshell – London Weekend Television, Playing the Field – Tiger Aspect / BBC) playing Phil Newsome, and COLIN TARRANT (The Bill – Thames Television, The Soldier’s Song – Theatre Royal Stratford East) playing Bant. Richard Cameron has written a number of plays for The Bush Theatre including All Of You Mine, The Mortal Ash and Pond Life. Other plays include Can't Stand Up For Falling Down, Not Fade Away, Strugglers, The Moon's A Madonna, Indoor Flight and Great Balls Of Fire (West End). His TV and film work include Stone Scissors Paper (BBC1), which won the inaugural Dennis Potter Award, Conspirators (Meridian), The Horse Marine (BBC Films) and Cameron's Tales (Feelgood Fiction). Richard is three times winner of The Sunday Times Playwriting Award.

this glorious production is a smash hit. The bursts of close harmony singing are sheer joy. Tremendous musical muscularity. Michael Coveney, Daily Mail
