Greenwich Ice Rink at the Old Royal Naval College
Saturday 8th December 2007 to Sunday 13th January 2008
The magnificent ice rink set within the colonnades of the Old Royal Naval College at Greenwich returns for another festive season – with superb views across the Thames and up to the Greenwich Observatory the ice rink will be operational for a five week season. The Old Royal Naval College is a great baroque masterpiece of English architecture, set in its owned landscaped grounds on the banks of the River Thames in the centre of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site. The Ice Rink has magnificent views looking up to Queen’s House and the Greenwich Observatory, and also across the Thames to the many lights and buildings of Canary Wharf.
Hampton Court Palace Ice Rink
Saturday 1st December 2007 to Sunday 13th January 2008
Now a mainstay of Christmas the ice rink returns for its fifth festive season of six weeks in the grounds of historic Hampton Court Palace. Set in the truly splendid and traditional setting within the grounds of Hampton Court Palace the ice rink will again be located on the west front of Henry VIII’s historic red brick palace. Inside the Palace there will be traditional offerings of costumed events celebrating the court of King Henry VIII.
Kew Gardens Ice Rink
Sunday 25th November 2007 to Sunday 6th January 2008
Festive glidings return again this year to the magnificent Royal Botanic Gardens with the real-ice rink situated directly in front of the majestic Temperate House in the grounds of Kew Gardens. Kew Gardens is always festive during the Christmas and New Year, and this year will be no exception as its Christmas Festival sees Kew’s landscape transformed with Christmas lights and decorations, bell ringing at weekends and Kew’s huge Christmas Tree - a 30 metre high heritage Cedar.
Royal Windsor Ice Rink at Alexandra Gardens
Saturday 8th December 2007 to Sunday 6th January 2008
Now a mainstay of the festive season at Royal Windsor the magnificent rink is situated in Alexandra Gardens near the banks of the River Thames. From the gardens there are views up to Windsor Castle, the largest inhabited castle in the world and the favourite weekend home of the Queen.
Tower of London Ice Rink
Saturday 24th November 2007 to Sunday 13th January 2008
For the past 900 years the Tower of London – Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress on the Thames - has been the setting for some of the most significant events in British history. Now, nearly 940 years after William the Conqueror founded the building, the Tower of London again plays host to a magnificent real-ice rink situated in the dry moat beneath the Outer Wall of the Tower of London.
Booking for the ice rinks (hourly sessions accommodating up to 250 people) is open by phone and internet. Already bookings are heavy and sessions at weekends and immediately around Christmas and New Year are selling out so advance booking is strongly recommended.
PRESS PASSES for the Ice Rinks are available for the following evenings: Friday 23rd Nov - Tower of London, Monday 26th Nov - Kew Gardens, Friday 30th Nov - Hampton Court Palace, Friday 7th Dec – Greenwich and Royal Windsor.
