THE PRESS RELEASES
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 19 June 2003 Qdos Entertainment plc presents
SOPHIE LAWRENCE JONNY REGAN & MATT SLACK in
BOOGIE NIGHTS
Directed by Jon Conway Choreography by Alan Harding Designed by Andy Walmsley Script Associates Terry Morrison and Shane Richie
Fluff those afros, grab your platforms and throw on some glitter because Qdos Entertainment are proud to announce that Boogie Nights, the ultimate seventies musical is back and touring the nation again this Autumn! This glamorous glitterball of a show will have audiences dancing in the aisles, as they have always done on the production's previous tours over the past year. The disco songs all boogie, the comedy is bustin', and for this Autumn tour there is a funky and formidable new cast! The Autumn tour will take in Torquay, Bristol, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Southend, Blackpool and High Wycombe.
Boogie Nights captures the heat, the madness, the heartache and the joy of being young and in love. Roddy is in love with Debs, and Debs is in love with Roddy, but Debs knows that her Roddy has more than a roving eye! Through all the tears and laughter - can they both find what they are truly searching for?
Starring ‘blonde bombshell’ SOPHIE LAWRENCE (EastEnders) and ‘cheekie geordie’ JONNY REGAN (Big Brother 3), Boogie Nights (written and directed by JON CONWAY) was an instant hit with people of every age when it made its West End debut (starring Shane Richie) at the Savoy Theatre in ’98, and the highly-acclaimed touring version created a huge army of fans, following the show all around the country.
The show’s creator, Jon Conway assures that this excellent new cast brings an extra dimension to the show: “Sophie Lawrence brings her considerable experience and talent to the Debs character. Jonny Regan wows audiences every night with his amazing vocal ability. I am truly thrilled with the talent of the new cast”.
Sophie Lawrence has been working constantly and is much in demand since leaving her role as Diane Butcher in EastEnders. She has previously earned considerable praise as a musical star in The Rocky Horror Show. Jonny Regan leapt to fame last year after entertaining the nation for nine weeks whilst residing in Channel 4’s Big Brother house. Matt Slack, who played the role of Dean the DJ in the Spring tour, now takes on the lead role of Roddy O’Neil for this Autumn 2003 national tour.
For those who grew up in the 70's it will remind them how good the music and clothes were. For those who didn't they will find out what they missed. I guarantee you'll have a good laugh and leave the show singing and dancing! Jonny Regan
This show has everything, a great story that will make you laugh and cry. The best 70's music to sing and dance to. Hotpants and hair do's you'd rather forget. But most of all it has a wonderful cast. A night of real funky entertainment not to be missed! Sophie Lawrence
Boogie Nights is a sensational show with an absorbing storyline featuring amazing dance routines and funky seventies costumes! The show is packed with classic seventies floor fillers including Boogie Wonderland, Celebration, Disco Inferno, Enough is Enough, I Will Survive, Play That Funky Music, Street Life, We Are Family and YMCA. Boogie Nights is a celebration of the undying spirit of the decade that brought us glam, funk, flares and disco!
Plans are now underway for a US transfer early 2004 following hugely successful seasons in South Africa and New Zealand in the Spring of 2003. Jon Conway; “America beckons, and I am adapting the show for the ‘American language’, re-titling it ‘Boogie Wonderland’ and a major coast to coast tour will commence in April 2004”.
