FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 10th June 2004

Cannizaro Park Festival

Cannizaro Park, West Side Common, Wimbledon SW19 4UE

Saturday 10th July to Sunday 8th August 2004

OPEN AIR THEATRE AND ENTERTAINMENT

RETURN TO CANNIZARO PARK THIS SUMMER

Robert J Williamson and the London Borough of Merton are delighted that the Cannizaro Park

Festival, one of London’s major open air attractions, will return for a four week season (10 July

though 8 August 2004) with a host of entertainment that truly is an event for all the family and

that has something for everyone – Jongleurs comedy nights, jazz, an Abba tribute, opera, stars of the

West End musicals, a circus and, of course, Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night starring WAYNE SLEEP,

NORMAN PACE and carly hillman and Much Ado About Nothing starring NORMAN

PACE, carly hillman and ROBERT J WILLIAMSON – all in the specially built Open Air

Theatre in the grounds of Cannizaro Park.  This year’s event is supported by the London Borough of

Merton, Young’s Brewery, Robert Holmes and Octagon.

Cannizaro Park provides a perfect environment for the very best in open air theatre and entertainment.

This year over 25,000 people are expected to visit the summer celebration.  The specially constructed

open air theatre, comprising a stage and auditorium that seats 700, is set in an idyllic purpose built Italian

walled garden and is situated in the heart of Cannizaro Park on the edge of Wimbledon Common.

The Cannizaro Park Festival starts on Saturday 10th July with Thank You For The Music – 30th

Anniversary Tour featuring songs from Abba, The Bee Gees and many more.  Sunday 11th July

starts the regular Sunday Lunchtime Jazz (11 July with Polly Gibbons, 25 July with Lee

Gibson, 1 August with Samara, 8 August with Jacqui Hicks), and then in the evening  of 11th the

London Gay Men’s Chorus.  Monday 12th July sees the first of three Jongleurs All

Star Summer Comedy Nights this evening starring Kevin McCarthy, John Maloney,

Paul Tonkinson and Gina Yahere (also on 25th July and 1st August – different line up so see below

LONDON CITY OPERA take to the stage with a Gilbert & Sullivan Summer Concert and A

Night of the World’s Greatest Opera respectively.

including juggling, stilt walking, unicycles, tight rope and trapeze.

successful rock opera, GODSPELL, bursting onto the stage.  A twenty strong professional cast and

live band bring to life the last days of Jesus Christ with all the songs that we know and love including

the international hit Day by Day.

Week three of the Cannizaro Park Festival begins with PLAYBOX THEATRE COMPANY and their

acclaimed production of Treasure Island (Mon 26 – Wed 28 July).  The LONDON CITY OPERA

best loved romantic comedies take to the stage – starring WAYNE SLEEP, NORMAN PACE (of Hale
