THE PRESS RELEASES
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 31st August 2004
ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR planned for the Cannizaro Park Festival 2005
Cannizaro Park, West Side Common, Wimbledon SW19 4UE
Robert J Williamson and the London Borough of Merton are delighted that the Cannizaro Park Festival 2004 has been such an overwhelming success that it will return again in July and August next year (2005). Despite thunder clouds and downpours the crowds made their way to Wimbledon’s Cannizaro Park in July and August this year for what is proving itself to be one of London’s major open air attractions with a host of entertainment that truly is an event for all the family.
Robert J Williamson, producer of this year’s Cannizaro Park Festival said “I am delighted that, despite the rather untypical seasonal weather, so many residents of and visitors to Wimbledon made their way to this year’s Festival. With Wayne Sleep, Norman Pace, Shakespeare, Jongleurs comedy nights, Sunday jazz afternoons, events for children, opera, West End musical evenings and our own version of The Last Night of the Proms we had quality and varied entertainment that was open to all, and I can assure everyone that our plans for next year are currently being set and 2005 will be another magical year”.
Councillor Margaret Brierly, Mayor of Merton, stated “I attended the Cannizaro Festival on two occasions this year and I must say how much I enjoyed myself. I congratulate Robert J. Williamson and his company on a very successful season which was enjoyed by over 20,000 people. Many of my friends attended during the Festival and the reports I received were very enthusiastic and we are all looking forward to next year” while Maureen Pepper, Merton’s Arts Development Officer said "The Cannizaro Open Air Theatre Festival was a great success, many of the shows sold out completely and the overall audience numbered over 20,000 people. We were delighted with the education projects which enabled the students of Raynes Park High School to perform trapeze to an audience of over 600 people. We have received positive feedback from audience members travelling to the Festival from as far away as Windsor and Bromley and we look forward to working with the RJ Williamson Company again next year".
Robert Williamson would also like to pass on his sincere thanks to the local companies who supported, both financially and promotionally, this year’s Festival in particular Robert Holmes & Company, Octagon and Young’s Brewery. Plans for next year’s Cannizaro Park Festival are expected to be released, and the events on-sale, in early 2005.
