THE PRESS RELEASES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 3rd September 2004

JOHN LESLIE

joins Rula Lenska, Sylvester McCoy and the cast of

The Good Company’s

Pride & Prejudice

Book by Jane Austen

Adapted & Directed by Sue Pomeroy

Designed by Dennis Saunders

NATIONAL TOUR - September through November 2004

Pride & Prejudice Press Conference – Thursday 9 September at 12.30pm

John Leslie has joined the cast of and is currently in rehearsals for The Good Company’s production of Jane

Austen’s Pride & Prejudice, adapted and directed by Sue Pomeroy.  John Leslie will be playing the role of

Mr Wickham and joins Rula Lenska (in the role of Mrs Bennett) and Sylvester McCoy (in the role of Mr

Bennett) in this ensemble company production.  The national tour starts at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in

Guildford on 14th September (Press Night Thursday 16th) and then tours to Edinburgh, Windsor, Westcliff

and Greenwich, during its 6 week tour.

A Press Conference will be held at 12.30pm on Thursday 9 September at RADA, 62 - 64 Gower St, WC1E

6ED.  The whole company, including the director Sue Pomeroy, will be in attendance and available for interview

and photographs.  Attendance and all interviews must be requested in advance to Paul Savident on 020 8567 2089

or by e-mail to paul@savident.com.  There will also be a non-costumed photocall with cast members from Noon

for 20 minutes – again please request attendance in advance.

Director Sue Pomeroy knows that John is perfect for the part – “John Leslie displayed a deep and conscious

knowledge of the pain of an individual like Wickham – a person pursued in society by forces more powerful than

he. During the audition process John proved he was able to portray the charisma and attraction of the character,

as well as the sadness and conflict within Wickham who was a man who lived life to the full and strayed. Having

demonstrated his ability and suitability for the role, we see no reason to deny him the opportunity of moving

forward with his career. He is a working actor getting on with the job and we are delighted that John has been

able to join this Good Company production”.

John Leslie said "I am absolutely delighted to have been offered, and accepted, the part of Mr Wickham in the

Good Company’s national tour of Pride & Prejudice. I see this as a truly fantastic opportunity for me to continue

my career and put to one side all that has happened in my life in the past few years. From day one of rehearsals

Sue Pomeroy, Rula, Sylvester and the cast have made me feel welcome and I am really looking forward to

playing this role and enjoying the tour – especially the visit to Edinburgh Playhouse later this month".

Casting is now complete and this delightfully funny and engrossing adaptation of the classic comedy of features

stunning new actress Emma Campbell-Jones as the charming Elizabeth Bennet, Nicholas

Dawkes as Denny, Tryphena Dawn as Charlotte, Pippa Duffy as Kitty, Lisa Harding as

Jane, Nolan Hemmings (son of the late David Hemmings) as the dashing Mr Darcy,

Andy Henderson (MURDER IN SUBURBIA) as the engaging Mr Bingley, John Leslie (ex BLUE

PETER presenter) as Mr Wickham, Rula Lenska (Q in ROCK FOLLIES) as the nervy Mrs Bennet,

Sylvester McCoy (best known as DR WHO) as the laid-back Mr Bennet, Katarina Olsson as

Miss Bingley, Ben Roddy as the detestable Reverand Collins and Anna Steel as the susceptible Lydia.
