Romance Blossoms at the Tower of London Ice Rink -
on it's first ever day!
The
Tower of
London Ice Rink (www.toweroflondonicerink.com)
has proven itself to be London’s, if not the UK’s, most romantic
ice rink as it played unexpected host to a marriage proposal and a
renewing of vows within the first five hours of opening of its
inaugural season within the moat of the Tower of London today
(Saturday 19 November ’05).
Colin Tunn, 28,
of Hammersmith,
London, proposed to his
girlfriend, now fiancé, Siobhan (27) following a skating session
at the Tower of London Ice Rink. Colin said “It was a spur of the
moment thing, and I’m just glad Siobhan said yes. I should have
thought about this before and got a red rose or something.”
Siobhan at first thought her boyfriend was joking until he pointed
out they would have to now go and buy a ring – apart from being
speechless she was “over the moon”.
Leah and
Tokunboh Akinlonu of Purfleet in Essex were skating at the Tower
of London ice rink as part of a day celebrating their third
wedding anniversary and, asking for quiet skaters on the ice moved
to the perimetre, Tokunboh knelt down on one knee in the centre of
the rink and re-stated his wedding vows declaring his love for his
wife, Leah. With crowds around the rink applauding and cheering
they left the ice and were then given a celebratory glass of
mulled wine each. The couple had booked their tickets through
lastminute.com.
Jon Rogers, a
director of
PWR Events which has installed
the rink in the moat of the Tower of London, said “We have had
proposals and commitments in the past at our sister rinks at
Hampton Court Palace and Greenwich at the Old Royal Naval College
but never quite so quickly in the season. The Tower of London
rink certainly looks wonderful and romantic and it’s great to have
this happening. Maybe we need to get in a supply of red roses.”
The
Tower
of London Ice Rink is open daily 10am though 10pm (last session
time 9pm) until 8 January 2006 (excluding Christmas Day). Tickets
can be booked by calling 0870 602 1100 or by visiting
www.londonicerinks.com.
The Tower of London Ice Rink is supported by bmibaby.
