THE PRESS RELEASES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 16 April 2007

Friday 13th proves to be an excellent date for

BritishTheatre.com

The social networking site for theatre professionals

BritishTheatre.com launched softly mid-March 2007 as a social networking site for theatre professionals and those with a keen interest in theatre.  Several weeks later, on the auspicious Friday 13th April, BritishTheatre.com’s community reached 200 and has no thoughts of slowing down.

Marcus Markou, founder of BritishTheatre.com, knew from his own experience as an actor and writer that the theatre industry was full of opportunities for actors, writers, directors etc but that, with little networking happening, the industry’s professionals were not getting to hear of them.

Having achieved great success in his ‘day-job’ as MD of BusinessesForSale.com and FranchisesForSale.com, Marcus realised that the internet was the perfect place to start a social networking site for the theatre industry.  “Though made up of very sociable individuals, the theatre industry has few opportunities for its professionals, of all talents and sectors, to network.  Finding out who is auditioning for what, where the best drama courses can be found, which theatres are keen on new writing and how to learn a new skill are all questions which result in experience-filled answers in chance one-to-one meetings – and I knew by creating a community of like-minded theatre professionals these questions and answers would reach a wider knowledge base.”

BritishTheatre.com aims are very simple - to connect people actively involved in the theatre with each other.  Through these key aims BritishTheatre.com hopes that it will see the birth of new and exciting creative partnerships on the website and in the theatre industry.  Whether an actor, director, writer, stage designer, teacher, make-up artist, lighting or sound specialist, producer, theatre lover or marketing or PR consultant BritishTheatre.com is relevant.

The site allows members to create their own profile page - like on MySpace.com – and then also upload photographs, publish a blog, upload videos and showreels (either directly or from YouTube.com / Google Video) and create their own groups within this initial group.  It also actively encourages people to promote themselves and their shows, exchange ideas and start discussions – already a hot discussion point is the ‘diversion’ of arts funding to that of the Olympics!

Paul Savident, a co-founder of BritishTheatre.com, points out that the site is not in competition with other theatre sites “BritishTheatre.com is not competing with other excellent sites such as WhatsOnStage.com, Theatre.com and organizations such as Spotlight.com.  We are offering something very different – an opportunity for our theatre industry’s professionals, and those who just love theatre, to exchange thoughts, tips or just talk about new shows and projects.”

BritishTheatre.com’s members are already looking at meeting up and putting names to physical bodies and the site is also planning its own special events – of which more will be added to the site shortly.  The site is also encouraging members to take part in its members own events such as Actors and Writers London (London’s professional play-reading forum for actors and writers) and Fluxx Improvisation For Actors (weekly drop-in workshops).

BritishTheatre.com is new… and growing!
