The Fall & Rise of Lenny Smallman Written and performed by Richard Lumsden
Mill Studio, Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford, GU1 3UX Thursday 30 Nov - Saturday 2 Dec 8pm
Richard Lumsden will be appearing in his play, The Fall & Rise of Lenny Smallman, for three performances only at the Mill Studio of the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford on Thursday 30 November, Friday 1 and Saturday 2 December 2006 – all shows 8pm.
At its London premiere The Fall & Rise of Lenny Smallman (then titled We Could Be Heroes) received Time Out’s Critic’s Choice for one of the best plays in London. The play tells of the travels and turbulence in the life of a struggling musician as he tries to follow in the footsteps of his heroes – including icon music and style icon David Bowie. Written and performed by Richard Lumsden the show is presented by cloud ten productions limited.
A struggling songwriter tries to follow in the footsteps of his heroes but life, of course, never turns out as planned, and his road to middle-age is strewn with unsuccessful relationships and disappointing career moves.
On his epic journey into adulthood, he gradually realises his lifelong dreams won’t be coming true, then a big music festival gives him an opportunity for one final moment of glory.
Then again, something could always go wrong…
Richard Lumsden is widely known as an actor on stage, film and television and as a writer. He is currently appearing along side Catherine Tate in BBC2’s The Catherine Tate Show and is also known from Channel 4’s Sugar Rush, the BBC’s All About Me, Is It Legal?, Last of the Summer Wine, The Sharp End, The House That Jack Built and roles in films such as Sense And Sensibility, New Avengers and Being Julia. Richard’s writing work includes Wonderful You (with Chris Neil) for ITV, three verse plays for Radio 4: John Dodd Gets Taken For A Ride, A Good Place For Fishing (now re-written for the West End stage) and Man in the Moon. Skeletons, a new play about thirty-something life, love and loss, will be produced in the West End in 2007.

'Lumsden will be a hero for more than one day! This is an uplifting, feelgood comedy that propels its audience on a rollercoaster ride. A musical extravaganza! A tale of epic proportions! ONE NOT TO BE MISSED!' IndieLondon.co.uk
‘FUNNY, TOUCHING, EVOCATIVE AND THOUGHT PROVOKING. Richard Lumsden is wonderful - with the ability to touch the hearts of those watching by evoking such clear imagery that you can almost smell the atmosphere. Not only a talented actor and writer, but also accomplished musician. I DEFY ANYONE NOT TO FEEL IN AWE BY THE END’ RoguesandVagabonds.co.uk
